At the same time, young adults from the Pacific Northwest, across the United States, and around the world gain hands-on restoration experience while building the skills, confidence, and leadership needed to become environmental leaders.

Rooted will feature stories and perspectives from people across the EarthCorps community! From current Corps members beginning their environmental careers to alumni carrying what they learned at EarthCorps into communities and organizations around the world, come listen to the voices who are changing the world.
Lylianna Allala is the Director for the City of Seattle’s Office of Sustainability and Environment (OSE). She has spent nearly 7 years with OSE serving in the roles of Equity and Environment Manager, Climate Justice Director and most recently Deputy Director. In these roles she has provided strategic leadership and direction on the development and implementation of policies and programs that address the root causes and impacts of climate change, including citywide implementation of Seattle’s Equity and Environment Initiative, Seattle’s Green New Deal, and Seattle’s Climate Action Plan. Prior to joining the City of Seattle, Lylianna led climate & environmental policy & outreach for U.S Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal. She began her career in trail building, habitat restoration and ecology focusing on upland and urban forests, and wetlands.
With expertise in organizational development, change management, race and social equity, systems thinking, and fostering high functioning teams, Lylianna brings a talent for designing and launching new strategies, programs, and policies to co-develop solutions that will lead us to a more equitable and just world. Her leadership was recognized by Grist in 2023 for her role as a bridge between environmental policy, community engagement and climate justice. She is a 2024 Obama Foundation USA Leader and co-convener for the Obama Leaders Climate Community of Practice.
As the Climate Justice Director, Lylianna developed strategies to address the root causes and impacts of climate change and oversaw citywide implementation of Seattle’s Equity & Environment Initiative and Seattle’s Green New Deal. Prior to OSE, Lylianna led climate & environmental policy & outreach for U.S Congresswoman Pramila Jayapal. Lylianna began her career in habitat restoration and ecology focusing on upland and urban forests, and wetlands.
Lylianna has a B.A in English from Winona State University, a holds certificate in Climate Change and Public Health from Yale University, Non-Profit Management from Georgetown University and Wetland Science and Management from the University of Washington. Lylianna is on the board of Seattle’s Short Run Comix & Arts Festival, and The Nature Conservancy, Washington. She is a co-creator of Growing Old, a podcast that explores what it would look like within the next 50 years for Seattle to become a place where both trees and humans grow old. In 2023, Lylianna was named on the Grist 50 list as a climate and justice policy leader to watch. She is a 2019 Henry M. Jackson Foundation Leadership Fellow, a 2024 participant of the Obama Foundation Leaders USA program
