EarthCorps brings together passionate and hardworking young adults from the US and countries around the world, for a yearlong environmental leadership training program in Seattle, Washington. Our participants learn leadership skills by working collaboratively, leading thousands of community volunteers each year, and executing technical environmental restoration projects including salmon stream restoration, native tree plantings, invasive plant removal, wetland and shoreline restoration, and trail construction.

Position Summary

The Program & Project Manager is a full-time, temporary position at EarthCorps from June 1 – December 10, 2020. The position works with two distinct but collaborative teams and is responsible for:


Program Team: Coordinating and supporting EarthCorps’ Corps Specialist (ECS) Program. EarthCorps Specialists are young adults who have conservation corps experience and a desire to serve in logistics or field based positions.


Field Team: Project development and coordination between EarthCorps and partner agencies/organizations; contract management; restoration design, materials acquisition, field leadership of crews; supervision of crew leaders and responsibility for maintaining safety standards and organizational goals of EarthCorps in all endeavors.

Duties & Responsibilities

Program Team (20%)

Program Coordination and Support:

·        Manage all aspects of the ECS Program

·        Collaborate with the Corps Operations Manager supporting and coaching AmeriCorps members in the Specialist Program

·        Facilitates member evaluations and weekly Specialist cohort meetings

·        Coordinates with Program Team to plan and facilitate multi-day overnight retreats.

·        Ensure timely communication between field staff and the specialist cohort

·        Track Specialist Program attendance using Sales Force and keep Corps Operations Manager informed of updates around attendance

·        Assist with hiring ECS Program participants

Training and Instruction:

·        Implement an annual training and education program for specialists in coordination with program and field team

·        Foster and encourage quality work and interaction among corps members

·        Facilitate trainings for crew program participants as needed areas such as: project orientation, proper use of tools and equipment, workplace safety, restoration ecology, best management practices in restoration techniques, natural resource management, leadership/management skills, and community service

·        Leads by example, modeling professionalism and timeliness. Enforce the standards of behavior as well as policies and procedures of EarthCorps and ensures adherence to program goals and mission


Field Team (80%)

Project Management:

·        Manage field projects in conjunction with the Project Management Team and agency partners. Projects may include invasive plant removal, native revegetation, stream restoration, erosion control, site stewardship, trail maintenance/construction, green storm water infrastructure, and volunteer management.

·        Coordinate and schedule field work projects with the Project Management Team

·        Develop and maintain exceptional relationships with clients

·        Articulate project values and goals to audiences of socially, economically, and ethnically diverse backgrounds.

·        Ensure all projects meet quality and quantity expectations along with budget and timeline agreed upon with client. Serve as on-site project manager for EarthCorps

·        Manage purchasing of materials and invoicing for field projects

Supervision:

·        Actively creates and supports an equitable and inclusive culture at EarthCorps

·        Establish clear goals & objectives with crews including quality/quantity of work, timeline, and safety standards

·        Support leadership development of the crew leaders and corps members who come from diverse backgrounds

·        Enforce the standards of behavior as well as policies and procedures of EarthCorps and ensures adherence to program goals and mission

·        Lead by example, working alongside corps members and crew leaders

·        Counsel, motivate, and discipline individual corps members and crew leaders as needed

Logistics:

·        Assist in the management and maintenance of field infrastructure including vehicles, tools, power equipment, camping gear, herbicide equipment, and storage facilities in coordination with Logistics Manager and other field staff

Communication:

·        Prepare oral and written reports including project summaries, equipment use and maintenance logs, performance evaluations, and incident reports

·        Conduct GIS mapping and photo documentation of projects when required

·        Maintain project files, including documentation of work, receipts, and contract compliance

·        Represent EarthCorps at public events 

Required Qualifications

·        A commitment to racial equity and environmental justice

·        Demonstrated management skills including supervision and professional development

·        Experience with environmental education and/or training young adults in restoration/conservation programming

·        Hands-on experience with field work such as wetland, riparian, and upland habitat restoration

·        Demonstrated leadership in a team setting working with staff, volunteers, agency personnel, resource user groups, and diverse populations to accomplish conservation or restoration objectives

·        Demonstrated ability to work independently in an office and field setting

·        Ability to maintain self- motivation and persistence in the face of obstacles

·        Excellent interpersonal and conflict resolution skills

·        Commitment to equity and inclusion in all interactions and communications

·        Interest in community service, environment, and youth development

·        Proficient with Microsoft Office programs

·        Ability to travel regionally including car and ferry trips

·        Ability to work occasional weekend and overnight programs, including camping

·        Ability to work under physically demanding conditions, including cold and wet weather

·        Ability to walk, lift 50 pounds, and operate hand and power tools and other mechanical equipment

·        Valid driver’s license and acceptable driving record

·        Positive attitude and sense of humor

Desired Qualifications

·        Experience working with communities of color and managing diverse teams

·        Conservation Corps program coordination experience or similar experience

·        Knowledge of Pacific Northwest flora, ecosystems, and environmental issues

·        Effective and experienced public speaker

·        Wilderness First Responder or higher certification

·        Knowledge of ArcGIS equipment and programs

·        Washington State Pesticide Applicator license

Terms of Employment

  • Full-time - 40 hrs./week
  • Temporary - June 1 - December 10, 2020

Benefits

  • Monthly salary of $3,580 - $3,750 depending on experience (annual equivalent of $43,000 - $45,000)
